If the debate over whether computerised special effects are better than
hand-crafted "practical effects" needs a swift kick in the you-know-what
and a hands-down unequivocable, undeniable answer - it's this film.
It's essentially wall-to-wall with excellent practical effects which
never, ever look unbelievable and never fail to elicit squirms of horror
and uneasiness from the audience.
The seemingly bland story of a guy turning into a fly is given a
disgusting amount of texture here. If it wasn't for the emotional scenes
(as a parent, they're über off-putting) I'd show this to everyone I
could.
